What are the different algorithms?

The new miners make use of three different algorithms. We take a closer look at what each one does:

Equihash Algorithm

The Equihash Algorithm is based on cryptography concept and computer science and is an enhanced Wagner’s algorithm. The Proof-of-Work mining algorithm is ASIC resistant and memory oriented. So, depending on the size of your hardware’s memory, the more you can mine.

With the Equihash Algorithm, the following coins can be mined:

  • Bitcoin Gold (BTG)
  • ZCash (ZEC)
  • Bitcoin Private (BTCP)
  • Komodo (KMD)
  • ZenCash (ZEN)
  • ZClassic (ZCL)
  • BitcoinZ (BTCZ)

  • Zero (ZER)
  • Bitgem (BTG)
  • Zelcash (ZEL)

Blake Algorithm

The Blake Algorithm is based on the ChaCha stream cipher. This means that the algorithm combines hash value with message words, and in essence cutting down on the ChaCha result in order to get the next hash value.

With the Blake (14r) Algorithm, the following coins can be mined:

  • Decred (DCR)

Lyra2Rev2 Algorithm

The Lyra2Rev2 Algorithm consists of various hashing algorithms. It is used as a Proof-of-Work mining algorithm and is ASIC resistant. The most important algorithm in Lyra2Rev2 is the Lyra2 Algorithm.

With the Lyra2Rev2 Algorithm, the following coins can be mined:
